Airway Heights has long had major entertainment venues. What feels different in summer 2026 is how much more of the day can now happen locally.
You can pick up an Italian sandwich on Highway 2, browse work from Indigenous artists, choose between an outdoor concert and an indoor show, or spend an August afternoon watching custom watermelon racers meet their messy end at Sunset Park.
That is the real story behind the things to do in Airway Heights this summer. The individual additions matter, but the more useful change is how they connect. Highway 2 is becoming the thread that ties lunch, local shopping, live music and community events into one plan.
Details were checked July 16, 2026. Concert schedules, door times and opening dates can change, so confirm plans with each venue or business before leaving home.
Start with the Highway 2 newcomer that is open now
Tagliare Delicatessen opened February 16 at 10219 W. Sunset Highway near Hazelwood Road. The Missoula-based company chose Airway Heights for its third deli and first Washington location. Co-owner Van Vega is a Cheney native, giving this expansion a West Plains connection.
The menu is built for a quick lunch or an early meal before a show. Tagliare offers made-to-order Italian-style sandwiches, salads, charcuterie, wine, imported specialty products, individual meats and cheeses, and cannoli. The sandwich names draw from music artists, which feels especially fitting in a city with two busy concert calendars.
Hours are:
- Monday through Saturday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Those daytime hours make Tagliare a practical pre-concert stop rather than a late-night option. For an early BECU Live show, ordering lunch or picking up food well before doors open will make the timing easier.
Habit Burger is on the way, but not open yet
The second dining development to watch is Habit Burger & Grill at 9558 W. Sunset Highway. As of July 16, Habit’s official location page still says “Coming Soon.”
The permitted project calls for a 2,257-square-foot restaurant with a drive-through window and a 500-square-foot outdoor patio. A May report pointed to a possible summer 2026 opening, but no exact date has been confirmed publicly.
For now, treat Habit as something to watch rather than something to build this weekend’s plans around. Wait for the official location page to publish opening details before making the drive.
Highway 2 planning note: Tagliare is open now. Habit Burger is still coming soon. That distinction matters when you are trying to feed everyone before doors open.
Add a local arts stop before the music
A newer Highway 2 business gives residents another way to turn lunch into an afternoon outing.
Battlegrounds Native Arts Market opened in 2026 at 12924 W. Sunset Highway. Spokane Tribe member Jeff Ferguson established the market through Elk Soup, his nonprofit organization. When the business was reported on in June, the store displayed work from 23 Indigenous artists and artisans, with room for more creators.
Reported hours were Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. That schedule lines up naturally with a daytime stop at Tagliare and an evening concert.
This is where the summer plan starts to feel different. Instead of driving directly to a venue, residents can make time for a local meal and a locally focused arts market along the same corridor.
Two concert calendars, two different kinds of night
Airway Heights has two major concert schedules running at once, but they do not offer the same experience.
BECU Live at Northern Quest is outdoors and holds more than 5,000 guests. Spokane Live is indoors at Spokane Tribe Resort & Casino and is less dependent on summer weather. Choosing between them starts with the artist, but timing, venue format and event rules can shape the rest of the plan.
BECU Live: outdoor shows and earlier arrivals
BECU Live is at Northern Quest, 100 N. Hayford Road. Gates generally open one hour before showtime, although several events have earlier door times. Parking is free in the resort’s covered and uncovered lots.

The calendar moves across country, pop-punk, a classic-rock tribute, reggae-rock and Americana-oriented music. That variety makes it worth scanning the full schedule rather than waiting for one familiar name to appear in your feed.
A few shows need more planning than the usual “arrive an hour early” approach:
- Koe Wetzel: July 30 at 6:45 p.m., with doors at 5:45 p.m.
- Luke Bryan: August 7 at 7 p.m., with doors at 5:30 p.m.
- Dirty Heads and 311: August 12 at 5:30 p.m., with doors at 4:30 p.m.
- NEEDTOBREATHE: August 22 at 7 p.m., with doors at 6 p.m.
The Dirty Heads and 311 date is the clearest example. A 4:30 p.m. door time turns the meal before the show into a lunch plan, not a standard dinner reservation.
Spokane Live: an indoor calendar with different rules
Spokane Live is inside Spokane Tribe Resort & Casino at 14300 W. SR-2 Highway. The indoor setting offers a straightforward alternative when weather exposure is a concern.
The venue says events are all ages unless an individual listing states otherwise. That exception matters. The Laugh Factory show on July 18 is listed for ages 18 and older.

The calendar creates several same-weekend choices. On July 31, Simple Plan is scheduled at BECU Live while Hinder and Finger Eleven are booked at Spokane Live. On August 1, The Australian Pink Floyd Show is at BECU Live and Sara Evans is at Spokane Live.
That is where the two-calendar idea becomes useful. Residents are not simply choosing from more concerts. They are choosing between outdoor and indoor venues, different genres, and sometimes different shows on the same date.
Save these Spokane Live rules before you go
Spokane Live’s practical policies can prevent a frustrating walk back to the car:
- Headline-event tickets are digital through AXS. Have the ticket available before reaching the entrance.
- Outside food and drinks are not permitted. Finish that sandwich before entering.
- Re-entry is allowed. An usher must scan the ticket when a guest leaves and returns.
- Clear bags may be no larger than 14 by 14 by 6 inches.
- Small non-clear clutches may be no larger than 6.5 by 4.5 inches.
- Stated exceptions apply for medically necessary items and single-compartment diaper bags when a child is present.
Check the individual event listing as well. Age limits and other show-specific details can differ from the general house rules.
Smaller July events at Spokane Tribe Resort & Casino
The resort’s summer calendar also includes events outside the main Spokane Live lineup.
Party on the Patio with Kyle Richard was listed for July 16 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Honky Tonk with Theresa Edwards Band follows on July 24, and Honky Tonk Night with Kelly Hughes is scheduled for July 30.
The two honky-tonk events list a $5 cover, doors at 6:30 p.m., line-dancing lessons at 7 and live music at 8. These smaller events give residents an option when a headline concert is more commitment than the evening calls for.
The summer closes with watermelon racers at Sunset Park
Airway Heights Day returns Saturday, August 22, at Sunset Park, 924 S. Lawson Street. Parks & Recreation describes the annual event as the celebration that brings the community’s summer season to a close.
The signature tradition is hard to confuse with any other local festival. Participants create custom watermelon racers, send them down the course and eventually smash them.
Airway Heights Day is also expected to include:
- A car show
- Live music
- A local youth dance performance
- Children’s activities
- Vendors
- Cornhole
- A beer garden
The event supports the Airway Heights Kiwanis Club and CARES, which stands for Citizens Associated for Recreation, Education & Social Equity. That fundraising purpose connects the day to organizations working within the community.
Parks & Recreation had not released the complete hour-by-hour schedule, final entertainment lineup or vendor roster when these details were checked. Keep the date open, then consult the official event page as August 22 approaches.
Why Sunset Park fits the finale
Sunset Park opened in 1971 and was once known as Peppermint Stick Park. As the city’s oldest park, it has a longer local history than the newer restaurant and entertainment additions along Highway 2.
Its current amenities include a splash pad, two playgrounds, a ball field, skate park, sand volleyball court, basketball court, walking and jogging paths, picnic tables and three covered shelters.
The splash pad operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day, Tuesday through Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m., and is normally closed Mondays. That makes Sunset Park useful well before Airway Heights Day. A splash-pad afternoon can be paired with an early meal on Highway 2, while the August celebration gives the park its biggest summer moment.
A simple way to plan the rest of summer
The strongest Airway Heights plan is no longer a single destination. It is a sequence:
Start on Highway 2. Pick up lunch at Tagliare or visit Battlegrounds Native Arts Market during its daytime hours.
Choose the right concert format. BECU Live offers the outdoor summer-show experience. Spokane Live offers an indoor setting with its own calendar and entry policies.
Leave room for the local tradition. Hold August 22 for Airway Heights Day, then check the official schedule closer to the event.
