For a long time, summer in Coeur d'Alene meant Saturday. You cleared the calendar for the parade, the fireworks, or a boat day, and the rest of the week ran on quiet auto-pilot. The 2026 lineup breaks that pattern in a way that's worth noticing if you already live here. Between Music @ McEuen on Wednesdays, Riverstone Concerts on Thursdays, and Sunday shows at City Park, three of your weeknights already have a soundtrack booked before you make plans.
The restaurant openings track the same shift. The most talked-about new rooms this spring didn't land on the tourist stretch of Sherman between First and Fourth. They opened one block over, one street north, or across the river in Riverstone, where a weeknight walk-in is still possible. If you've been thinking of Coeur d'Alene's summer as a big-event town punctuated by long stretches of nothing, the 2026 calendar quietly disagrees.
The Weeknight Concert Map
The free outdoor concert calendar this year is unusually dense. Three separate series, three different neighborhoods, three different nights.

Music @ McEuen runs Wednesdays from July 8 to September 2, Riverstone Concerts fall on Thursdays July 9, 16, 23 and August 6, 13, 20, and Sunday concerts at City Park run July 12, 19, 26 and August 9, 16, 23, 30. If you live within a walk or short drive of downtown or Riverstone, you can plan the summer around which park has music on which night rather than around a single weekend headliner.
The second-Friday habit still holds too. ArtWalk runs 5 to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month in downtown CDA, with 15-plus galleries and shops open, artists at work, and samples. July 10 is the summer's iteration, and it stacks against Riverstone's Thursday-night show the evening before, giving you two consecutive downtown-adjacent evenings without a ticket.
New Rooms on Side Streets, Not Just Sherman
The 2025–2026 opening wave has a pattern once you plot it on a map. A few of the highest-profile arrivals are on Sherman, but most of what's new is one block off the main artery, or in Midtown, or in Riverstone. That matters if you're a local trying to eat out on a Tuesday without valet-parking your patience.
Here's the current shortlist of recently opened or imminent spots, with addresses so you can actually find them:
- People's Waffle, 400 N. Fourth St. Co-owner Jacy Janson confirmed the CDA location opened on May 22, with breakfast and brunch seven days a week. The menu runs six sweet waffles, six savory waffles, and four waffle sandwiches, all gluten-free.
- River & Rye, 424 E. Sherman Ave. The menu is billed as flavors from Spain, France and Italy with some PNW flair, plus craft cocktails.
- Giuseppe's Pasta Posto Osteria, 501 Sherman Ave., now open in the former Collective Kitchen space.
- La Condesa, 117 N. Second St. Hours are 3 p.m. to midnight daily, with reservations through Toast Tab. The cocktail list runs from the house margarita and daiquiri to a Jungle Bird made with rum and Campari.
- Twigs Bistro, corner of Third Street and East Front Avenue in the new Thomas George building. The Coeur d'Alene location is a first for North Idaho, and Twigs got its start in 2001 in Spokane with eight locations now in the portfolio. The downtown spot offers views of Lake Coeur d'Alene, McEuen Park, and both indoor and outdoor dining.
- Post Falls Brewing – CDA, 1327 E. Sherman Ave. Current hours are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 9 p.m.
There's more coming before Labor Day. A new 7,500-square-foot mixed-use commercial building at 1570 W. Tilford Lane near the entrance to Riverstone Park is anticipated to be completed by this summer. The main restaurant space in the building has already been leased, though the tenant has not been disclosed. Across town on Appleway, The Habit Burger Grill is taking the place of the former Pizza Hut at 212 W. Appleway Ave., with an opening targeted for late spring or early summer 2026 and a first-in-North-Idaho footprint.
Note the geography. Fourth Street. Second Street. Third and Front. Tilford Lane. If you've been avoiding Sherman between Second and Fourth on weekends because the sidewalks are three abreast, the new supply is largely somewhere else.
The Saturday That Still Belongs to Everyone
Two Saturdays this month still play by the old rules, and both are worth blocking off even if you've done them a dozen times.
The Fourth of July is bigger than usual this year because the country is turning 250. The Resort is framing the day as a celebration of America's 250th birthday, with 4th Fest and a Red, White & VIP Viewing Party culminating in a fireworks display over the water. Lakeside 4th Fest runs 6 to 10 p.m. at the Resort Convention Center and front lawn, starting with a buffet dinner and moving to live music, lawn games, and a no-host bar before fireworks.
For the free version, the parade route and closures are worth knowing in advance. Soft closures on Sherman Ave. from 1st to 11th begin at 8:00 AM, the Kiddie Parade steps off at 10:00 AM from 8th & Sherman heading west to 1st, and the American Heroes Parade begins at 10:00 AM starting at 15th St. The city's park programming continues after the parade. The Fourth at City Park kicks off with music after the parade and includes food and vendors.
A week later is the beer half of the summer's civic diptych. The 9th Annual Downtown Coeur d'Alene Brewfest is at McEuen Park on July 11, 2026, from 1 to 7 p.m. Put the two Saturdays next to each other and you get the classic CDA rhythm — one massive shared event, then a smaller, more local one seven days later — but everything in between now has more shape to it than it used to.
What This Shifts for the Rest of the Summer
Here's the quiet argument buried in the calendar. A downtown that used to hollow out between Sunday night and Friday afternoon has grown a real Wednesday–Thursday spine. That changes how a resident uses the season.
A few practical shifts to consider:
- Park choice can drive dinner choice. Riverstone Thursday? Twigs, Giuseppe's, or whatever opens at 1570 W. Tilford Lane is a shorter loop. Music @ McEuen Wednesday? The Sherman corridor works, but so does a walk up to Second Street for La Condesa afterward.
- Second Friday is a real habit now. ArtWalk pairs cleanly with a Thursday concert the night before, giving you a two-night mini-weekend without leaving town.
- Breakfast has caught up to dinner. People's Waffle's arrival on North Fourth means you can build a Saturday morning around something new before the tourist crowd wakes up.
- Sunday isn't just a recovery day. City Park's Sunday series runs from mid-July into late August. That's seven Sundays with live music on the lakefront, most of which locals have historically ceded to visitors.
None of this makes Coeur d'Alene a different place. It's still a lake town where the water sets the pace and the summer feels short. It just means the parts of the week that used to feel like waiting rooms between Saturdays now have their own reasons to leave the house.
